Another excellent missive to Gov. Holden |
|
April 17, 2003 Governor Holden: If you wish to represent the wishes of the ‘true’' majority of ALL Missouri citizens, not just those living in metropolitan areas, please reconsider your position on HB 349. Stating that you are supporting the people's vote against Concealed Carry in 1999 does not relieve you of your responsibility to closely review the much more restrictive nature of the current License-to-Carry legislation, survey the effects of such legislation in the other 33 LTC states, and consider it with an open mind for approval. IT IS CLEARLY NOT PROPOSITION B THAT IS IN QUESTION. The people have spoken again, this time through their elected representatives. A bi-partisan majority of Missourians clearly represented in the House and Senate are supportive of this Bill. Would it not be in your best political interest to allow the legislation to be enacted even if you do not ‘personally’ support it with your signature? An overridden veto, in my opinion, would be the equivalent of a “no confidence” vote by the people you represent. Please reconsider your position on HB349 for the benefit of enhanced safety for ALL responsible Missourians and allow it to become law. Thank you. Sincerely, Richard A. Hime |
