THE LEGAL DEFENSE FUND--GOOD MONEY IN A GOOD CAUSE |

When a lawsuit was filed against the License to Carry law, the Legal Defense Fund was established to ensure that the interests of Missouri shooters would be represented. Tim Oliver, a private investigator from Columbia, personally guaranteed the legal fees in the hope that Missouri shooters would contribute enough to pay the bill. The Missouri Sport Shooters Association contributed five-thousand dollars ($5,000) to the Fund, the largest single contribution. A party has questioned the effectiveness, wisdom, and even the honesty of the Fund. A rumor of unknown origin has been spread claiming that MSSA has demanded its contribution back and is suing the Fund. None of these allegations are true. On 27 August, 2005 the MSSA Board heard the complaint about the fund and a response from members familiar with the Fund. After everyone had an opportunity to speak his piece, the Board remained satisfied with the purpose and conduct of the Fund. The history and evaluation of the Fund can be found at www.Learntocarry.com. |
