5 July 2004 Popeye’s 6060 N Antioch Rd Gladstone Mo 64118 Subject: Firearms Dear Sirs: I have done business in your store for many years. On my last visit I saw your sign prohibiting persons who have a License to Carry. I was shocked to discover that you no longer wanted my business. However, it is still legal to discriminate against my people. If, after being trained, fingerprinted, photographed, and investigated I am no longer trusted by your establishment, I shall honor your boycott and buy an inferior product down the street. Kevin L. 8 July 2004 Letters to the Editor Kansas City Star 1729 Grand Kansas City Mo 64108 Subject: Workplace & Guns Dear Sirs: Your editorial of 7 July, 2004 argues that employers should be allowed to keep guns out of the workplace. This is not an issue. As the owner of the premises the employer can put any conditions he likes on entry. In fact, the ConAgra Foods Plant had posted a sign banning guns, a fact reported by your newspaper on 3 July, 2004 page A4. The editorial claims that the argument that people will murder with other weapons in the absence of guns is “disingenuous”. If all guns disappeared from society, the machines to make them removed from garages and basements, and the formula for gunpowder erased from encyclopedias we are left with the fact that save for the Oklahoma City bombing, the worst mass murders in the United States were carried out by disgruntled arsonists with a half-gallon of gasoline or materials at hand. It seems that in your editorial stylebook “disingenuous” is defined as “inconvenient fact”. When concealed carry became a reality last February your editorialists warned of bloodshed and carnage. Months later where are the smoking guns? Kevin L. Jamison Attorney at Law |
