Subject: License to Carry law

FALSE STATEMENTS BY ANTI-GUN GROUPS

(Kansas City Mo.) Previous opponents of License to Carry (LTC) laws have misstated the effects of such a law in the apparent belief that they could lie faster than advocates could tell the truth. Current, unknown, opponents had a public relations firm issue a press release which misstates existing Missouri law, and falsely claims that the misstatements are part of the new License to Carry law (Schupp Co Inc. 314-421-5200 fax 421-5554).

The press release claims that the new law allows anyone to carry “assault rifles” into schools and that no one has the right to stop them. “This is not true,” said Kevin L. Jamison, a Kansas City area attorney and author of MISSOURI WEAPONS AND SELF-DEFENSE LAW. “The LTC law does not change existing trespass laws, nor does it change state and federal laws against carrying weapons into schools.”

The press release goes on to claim that gang members and drunks could possess and use firearms by claiming fear of attack. “The LTC law does not change the law regarding self-defense and does not give prior approval to such persons and the firm does a disservice to the public by claiming that it does,” said Mr. Jamison.

The press release goes on to claim that the new LTC law will create the right to carry a concealed weapon while traveling in a continuous journey through the state. “This is an absolute fabrication,” said Mr. Jamison, “This provision has been part of Missouri law since 1879 and was passed as part of the same bill which banned concealed weapons under most circumstances. For 125 years this law has existed without any problem and is not mentioned in the LTC law.”

“Whoever has given this nonsense to the public relations firm has, in my opinion, lied to them and the people of Missouri.” Said Mr. Jamison. “By relying on these falsehoods and misrepresentations they admit that they have no case to present.”
