WMSA EXCLUSIVE
JUSTICE TRIUMPHS OVER APRIL FOOLS
1 April 2005
Dateline KCMO (Where the Sheriff just enforces the law, he doesn't actually KNOW it).

The setting-Division 27, Jackson County Courthouse. The time-Friday morning 1st April.

When last we left our action heroes Kevin Jamison and Gary Davis, they were poised, ready to spring into action to avert a miscarriage of justice. It seems a Jackson County Deputy did not want to recognize Gary's credentials as a NRA instructor as being adequate to apply for a license to carry. The deputy insisted that Gary take the class. The law is written that if you are a instructor, you do not need to take the class. Gary provided proof he is an instructor. The deputy refused to accept it. Kevin attempted to reason with the deputy. This was unsuccessful. The deputy helpfully suggested that Gary break the law by having another instructor sign off for him. Hmmmm, law says provide proof you are in instructor, Gary does that, not good enough. Breaking the law by committing perjury on a license to carry application is the recommendation of the Sheriff's Department. As it was said, the Sheriff's Department may not actually KNOW the law, they just enforce it. And that gentle readers is how Kevin & Gary came to be in the courthouse on April Fools day. When the attorney for the Sheriff's Department actually READ the law, she realized that our Action Heroes were in the right. They appeared before the Judge, informed him they had come to an agreement. He instructed the attorney for the Sheriff's Department to write up and order and and get it over to the Sheriff's Department this afternoon.

So today there are some April Fools (although it could be said having a Sheriff that doesn't know the law he is sworn to uphold might not say much for those that voted for him) in Jackson county who perhaps are a little more aware of the law today.

And to quote a famous author "It is a good day for Liberty".
