Man with a gun is not intimidated by criminals

December 21, 2005

TERRY LOONEY

Violent crime in Tennessee is a serious problem that all Tennessee citizens should be aware of and prepared for. Recently a shooting was reported at the Governor's Square Mall.

What can you do? That is a decision that each individual must make. You cannot rely on law enforcement to protect you. Not because they don't try; they do. The local police and sheriff's department do the best job they can with the assets available. It is impossible to be everywhere at once.

Will they find the person who stabbed you? Or find the sexual predator who took your child? Or arrest the rapist who also murdered you?

Possibly. But what good does that do you when your body has already been buried?

I am an armed citizen. I have a permit to carry a handgun, and I am prepared to protect and defend my family, my friends and myself. No I don't want to shoot anyone. I pray I never have to draw my weapon for any reason except target practice or for cleaning. But, criminals will not intimidate me.

I do not shop in stores that deny me my civil right to keep and bear arms. They do so legally under Tennessee law. Laws that were written to make people feel good but do nothing to protect the citizen. It is apparent that criminals have no fear of these laws because they murder people in our parks. They even kill in and around or government facilities. These are the very places we are denied the right to carry our weapons.

You have the rights to vote and to keep and bear arms. Protect yourselves, your loved ones from both criminals and the government that doesn't, can't and won't protect you.
