| Privilege --a
right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or favor :
Prerogative, especially : such a right or immunity attached specifically
to a position or an office.
Right--something to which
one has a just claim: as a : the power or privilege to which one is justly
entitled The second amendment in the Bill of Rights simply states "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. " So, a right is something you are entitled to, something that can not be taken a way. This is unlike a privilege which is granted, and may be revoked at any time by the person, or group granting it. There are some that say that the second amendment says that the states may form Militias but that it doesn't apply to individuals. So, does this mean the first amendment applies only to groups having freedom of speech? Only groups, not people may assemble freely? Soldiers in time or war or peace shall not be quartered in homes without consent, of a group? No matter what, or how loudly Rosie O'Donnell says that the second amendment is not a real right, and does not apply to individuals, it IS and it DOES! The second amendment covers everything from Duck hunters to people that take personal responsibility for their own protection. It encompasses people that like to plink out back and people that compete. It is also one of, if not the most endangered amendment in the Bill of Rights. There are too many people that only get their news from the TV set or the liberal newspaper. The KC Conservative is such a rarity, I wish it could be cloned! Often when you see a news story involving a firearm, if they show a clip and talk about a semi-automatic pistol, they show a fully automatic firearm. CNN is famous for this, or infamous. They count on people not knowing the difference. When the Million Mom March (made up of around 100 people last I heard) talks about the number of firearms related deaths involving children, they don't tell you it also includes "children" around 18 years old that were killed during a gangbanger drug war, and includes suicides. When concealed carry passed, there were predictions from many in the media and former democratic Governor Bob Holden that blood would run in the streets. This didn't happen. Missourians are safer today now that we have concealed carry. Even if your choice is not to carry, you are safer. Why? Because the criminals don't know who does and does not choose to carry. So it's a little harder to pick victims. Ok, so you are not interested in self defense, but you do love to hunt. Did you realize last year just a couple days before Christmas that the Cass County Commission passed an ordinance proclaiming that "Any person within the limits of this County who shall discharge any BB gun, spring gun, paintball gun or air gun or shall shoot any pebble, bullet, slug, arrow or other hard substance by means of a sling, crossbow, rubber band or bow or any other means shall be deemed guilty of an ordinance violation. (Ord. No. 05-19 §1, 12-22-05)". No hunting, no target practice, no self defense. It was later rescinded after many upset phone calls. No doubt about it, the second amendment, which puts teeth in the others (if your government tells you that you are no longer allowed to assemble, worship or speak freely, what'cha gonna do about it, bub?) is under attack. If you want to have these same rights and freedoms to pass onto your children, then you need to do something about it. Pay attention to how your legislators VOTE, not how they campaign, how they VOTE. Join a second amendment rights organization, not just the NRA, but local ones, such as the Western Missouri Shooters Alliance. These organizations are the 'boots on the ground' that show up in Jeff City when laws are proposed. Some much needed laws for Missourians are making progress in our state, such as the Castle Doctrine that puts the letter of the law back on the side of the victim rather than the criminal. Don't take for granted that the rights you have will be there for your children, or they won't be. "Those who desire to give up Freedom in order to gain Security, will not have, nor do they deserve, either one." Benjamin Franklin |
