Voices: Spawning false concepts |
| August 31, 2007 |
Just as eggs are spawned, or hatched, so are false concepts or ideas. It begins with a very small particle — just a few words for instance. Recently, Neosho has been in the news almost daily since that tragic shooting took the lives of three good men and injured many others. An action that demands the attention of serious minds. Recently the action of the gunman was reported on a TV broadcast, then twice in the Globe. We were expressly informed how the man was armed. In the first two instances we were told he was armed with a .22-caliber pistol and a “magnum machine pistol.” then, on Sunday (Aug. 19) in the editor’s column it was stated in the following wording: “The gunman had a single .22 caliber handgun and a TEC-9 machine pistol.” By the time these questionable expressions reach Washington, the withered minds will immediately declare the gunman was armed with a “machine gun” pistol! Thus, through such fallacy wrong concepts are born. Both weapons in the above tragedy were best known as handguns. Each weapon fired only “one” round at a time — one just faster than the other. We have seen this faulty thinking “spawning” such expressions as “Saturday night specials” along with many other failed thoughts. Just remember this simple fact — that word “arms” in the Second Amendment is simply stated as an English generic term. It has nothing to do with length, loads, looks of a firearm. It is past time that we get to thinking more clearly on the issues of the day. Ralph Russell |
