The Grannie Detective Says – Women and Guns a Good Mix
Laura Lanfield
Those of us in the know, law enforcement officers and private investigators such as myself are aware that one of the scariest things to a man is a gun in a woman's hand; particularly if it is pointed at him. This should not necessarily be so for an untrained person of either sex who handles a weapon is a threat. But for some unfathomable reason , men for the most part, feel that they are in increased danger if a woman is holding the gun. No matter how this came about or the unfairness of it, it is what it is.

So how do we of the fairer sex, knowing that this is not a fair assessment of the situation, go about changing their minds?

In today's world self-defense is a necessary part of our everyday life. We accept this and acknowledge that our safety and that of our loved ones is of primary concern. So what can we do to facilitate this safety and how can it related to the use of guns?

1) First our mindset must change. Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

2) Second, a gun is a crafted piece of metal designed and created to perpetuate security, secure life and limb.

3) A weapon is dangerous if not understood or improperly used. Solution, women must understand guns, learn how and when to use them.

4) Accept responsibility for circumstances that call for the protection of a gun and be wise and cautious in its use.

5) Do not fear guns or be nervous about using one once you have learned how. It is merely a protective device. Men, relax. It's only a gun and I know how to use it.
