An Overland Park man already jailed in connection with an attack on his mother-in-law has been charged with plotting the murders of his wife and another man.

The new charges against Craig A. Steckelberg were filed Thursday in Johnson County District Court, where he was charged in May with the stun-gun attack on his mother-in-law at her home in Olathe last January.

Johnson County prosecutors have also charged another man, David A. Dikeman, in connection with the January attack. Dikeman, 46, is being sought by authorities.

Steckelberg, 40, is charged in the January case with aggravated burglary, aggravated battery and aggravated kidnapping. He has been in the Johnson County jail since May 21.

The new charges allege that on May 10 Steckelberg solicited another man to kill his wife, Cathy Steckelberg, and a witness against him in the January case. The Steckelbergs own two Chinese restaurants in Johnson County.

In January, a masked man forced his way into the mother-in-law's house, shocked her with the stun gun and demanded money that he thought was in a safe.

Craig Steckelberg was charged last November with domestic battery against his wife. On May 21, he was convicted of the domestic battery and with violating a protection order that his wife and her mother had obtained against him.
