Associated Press

Gov. Bob Holden was treated and released from a hospital Sunday after falling out of a cart and suffering "minor injuries" while doing yardwork, a spokesman said.

The governor tumbled from the cart as it was being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle at the family's cabin in Osage County near the Gasconade River, said Jack Cardetti, the governor's spokesman.

Cardetti said Holden had "minor injuries" but he did not know any further details about the accident, including what part of Holden's body was hurt.

Holden and members of his family had gone to the vacation spot for the Fourth of July weekend. Cardetti said alcohol was not involved in the accident.

Holden returned home after being released from the hospital.

"He is resting comfortably at the governor's mansion with his family," Cardetti said. "He doesn't expect any change in his schedule this week."

Holden is scheduled to make stops in Hannibal, Springfield and Kansas City on Monday.

Holden hurt in accident at family cabin

07/06/2003

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Gov. Bob Holden was treated at a hospital Sunday night after falling out of a cart while his family was doing yardwork at their cabin in Osage County, a spokesman said.

Members of Holden's security team took him by vehicle to University Hospital in Columbia as a precaution, spokesman Jack Cardetti said. Holden was treated and then released around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Cardetti said the accident happened around 5 p.m. when the governor fell out of the cart that was being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle at the cabin near the Gasconade River. The family had gone to the vacation spot for the extended Fourth of July weekend.

Cardetti said the governor had ``minor injuries,'' but he did not know any further details.

``He is resting comfortably at the governor's mansion with his family,'' Cardetti said. ``He doesn't expect any change in his schedule this week.''

Holden is scheduled to be in Hannibal on Monday morning, before heading to Springfield and then to Kansas City. At each stop, Holden is expected to sign bills to create a stimulus package for downtown areas in the state.

Calls by The Associated Press to the governor's mansion Sunday night were referred to Cardetti.
