Things got underway with a bang last night in Madison Square Garden when John McCain took to the podium and removed all doubt as to his support for George Bush's re-election. He took a shot at those who believe appeasement is the way to win the war on terror, saying "there is no avoiding this war. We tried that, and our reluctance cost us dearly." That's right...8 years of the Clinton administration's lack of action against Islamic terrorism did cost us dearly. But ... Democrats are appeasers and there's probably not much you can do about that.
So what about McCain's supposed differences with President Bush over the war in Iraq? The media loves to highlight their differences...as if somehow McCain weren't a supporter of the war in Iraq. Nope...McCain had this to say: "Our choice wasn't between a benign status quo and the bloodshed of war. It was between war and a graver threat. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise." He also addressed the weapons of mass destruction controversy by saying "Whether or not Saddam possessed the terrible weapons he once had and used, freed from international pressure and the threat of military action, he would have acquired them again." The media disappointment was off the charts...how could he be agreeing with Bush? Wasn't he secretly a liberal Democrat that was going to run with The Poodle? I guess not...looks like he meant business all along when he said he was a Republican that was supporting the president.
One of the best parts of the speech was when he took a shot at that worthless, lying sack of goo Michael Moore (who was in attendance as a columnist for USA Today.) McCain referred to Moore as " .... a disingenuous filmmaker....who would have us believe that Saddam's Iraq was an oasis of peace, when in fact -- when in fact it was a place of indescribable cruelty, torture chambers, mass graves and prisons that destroyed the lives of the small children inside their walls." Zing! The crowd loved the line so much McCain repeated it twice. He closed with this line: "Do not yield. Do not flinch. Stand up. Stand up with our president and fight. We're Americans. We're Americans, and we'll never surrender. They will." And with that, he walked off the podium. Good speech...he's probably going to run for president in 2008, although he'll be 72 by then.
Then it was former Mayor Rudy Giuliani's turn, and that's where the gloves came off. He brought the house down highlighting President Bush's successes in the War on Terror, and taking on The Poodle. He highlighted the flip-flopping, explaining Kerry voted against the first Gulf War, then later said he supported it. Of course, he then voted for the invasion of Iraq, but later voted against $87 billion in funding for the troops (that was after he voted for it..or something.) He talked about John Edwards' "two Americas," and said one America was for John Kerry to vote for something, and the other so he could vote against it. Good line.
Rudy also talked about the world's decade-long history of appeasement with terrorists, and why it has done nothing to stop the spread of Islamic terrorism. Time and time again the Euro-weenies have set terrorists free, and now George Bush is putting his foot down and crushing the jihadists. The speech was long...but the crowd loved it.
Tonight is First Lady Laura Bush, Education Secretary Rod Paige and the Governator....California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Already, this convention is way better than the Democrats'.
GRATEFUL IRAQI THANKS AMERICA
Much to the disdain of the anti-war left in the mainstream media, a pro-Bush Iraqi spoke. Zainab Al-Suwaij, Executive Director of the American Islamic Congress, addressed the convention at length, thanking America for liberating her country. She talked about what it was like to live in Iraq before it was liberated....apparently she didn't get the memo from Hillary Clinton who said women were better off under Saddam Hussein.
Anyway, she had this to say: "Living under Saddam Hussein, we could not gather as we do now to discuss things like democracy and freedom. We could only dream of a day when we could speak freely, and worship God in ways of our own choosing." Because her speech makes President Bush look good, you can expect the media to ignore it. According to them, all of the Iraqis hate America...and we are nothing more than "occupiers." She closed with this line: "I promise you: we will never forget what your sons and daughters did for us." Sounds like there are some grateful Iraqis (the Iraqi national soccer team excluded.)
No matter what The Poodle and the left would have you believe, Iraq is infinitely better off today than they were two years ago. Even though the media does its best to paint the war as a failure, the facts are the facts. Of course, facts don't matter too much to the media these days, do they?
RON SILVER CALLS OUT THE HOLLYWOOD LEFT
Actor Ron Silver took to the podium and gave a rousing speech condemning the hypocritical liberals who are bashing George Bush for the war on terror. Said Silver: "Even though I am a well-recognized liberal on many issues confronting our society today, I find it ironic that many human rights advocates and outspoken members of my own entertainment community are often on the front lines to protest repression, for which I applaud them, but they are usually the first ones to oppose any use of force to take care of these horrors that they catalogue repeatedly."
Finally, somebody said it. The left wants it both ways....they love to protest human rights abuses, but when somebody actually does something about it, they protest that too. Could it be that the left in Hollywood is basically ignorant of the causes they support and only do it for show? They're never even remotely consistent.
The truth is that Hollywood hates George Bush .. and the Hollywood liberals who make their livings reading words written for them by someone else continue to flounder when they become their own script writers.
Silver may never work in that town again, but he let them all have it.
BUSH SAYS WE CAN'T WIN THE WAR ON TERROR...OR DID HE?
The Poodle's campaign has seized upon a statement that President Bush made to Matt Lauer in an interview aboard his campaign bus that was broadcast yesterday on the 'Today' show. Here is what he actually said, when asked by Lauer if the war on terrorism can be won: "I don't think you can win it. But I think you can create conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world. Let's put it that way." Of course that is all the eager Democrats needed to demagogue the issue during what is traditionally the quiet period during the other party's convention. So The Poodle sent out the Tort King to attack.
Speaking last night on Nightline, the ambulance chaser said they believed the war on terror could be won, and accused the president of flip-flopping. Oh really? What a load. We are now supposed to believe the Democrats are going to win the war on terror after they have spent months accusing the president of fighting a war on terror in the first place? What happened to the appeasement strategy? Turning it all over to the U.N.? I guess that doesn't matter when you're an empty-headed political opportunist. The Kerry/Edwards ticket not only continually flip-flops, but they're now flip-flopping over their flip-flops.
It was a dumb thing to say....the President stepped in it....and it will no doubt wind up in campaign commercials. But anyone with half a brain knows what the president meant. That excludes most Democrats. You can't expect to win the war on terror as if it were a conventional war with a peace treaty or a surrender.
DEMOCRATS GETTING NERVOUS
Polls continue to show George Bush is surging, especially in battleground states, and that is before any bounce is figured in from this convention. Even the mainstream media is admitting as much...saying that things are looking pretty good for the president.
As the convention gets started, the latest polls show the Bush campaign has pretty much erased all of The Poodle's gains in key categories, including trust to handle the war on terror, the war in Iraq and the economy. George Bush is even ahead in the liberal battleground state of Wisconsin. Keep in mind that the Democrats have already had their convention, and it got them nowhere. sKerry reported for duty, but the American people didn't care.
So why is The Poodle not gaining any ground? Because right now America is at war...the war against Islamic terrorism, and Kerry is still fighting the Vietnam War. For some reason, he is making his Vietnam service the centerpiece of his campaign. Now you have the Swift Boat vets calling that into question...and things aren't looking too good.
Expect the left (and the media) to start getting really desperate if things slip any further.
ANGRY LIBERALS ATTACK DELEGATES
When the Democratic National Convention was being held in Boston, do you recall hearing any media reports of Democratic delegates to that convention being physically attacked by evil Republicans? (There are some Republicans in Massachusetts, including the governor.) You didn't, because there weren't any. Of course, the Democrats kept all of their protesters in a cage, so that may have had something to do with it.
Anyway, outside a hotel in Times Square, delegates to the Republican Convention were attacked by "protesters" dressed in black and swearing at them. There have been other encounters . "Protestors" dragged a cop from his motorcycle and beat him unconscious. Don't you just love the Kerry supporters? These leftists have promised to continue their harassment of convention delegates. Now why do you suppose this is?
Because the left can't just let the Republicans have their convention like the right let them have theirs. They have to be malcontents....and cause as much trouble as possible. A lot of these morons probably have no idea what they're protesting.
It's not enough for them to just vote for the candidate they agree with, they have to harass and insult people who are making a different choice. This proves once again that liberals are really the intolerant ones.
Remember that Atlanta Journal Constitution article profiling a well-known Atlanta anarchist a few weeks ago? This jerk liked to show his disdain for high-achievers by trespassing into expensive homes under construction and urinating in bathtubs. He's probably up here in New York right now trying to get into c delegates hotel rooms so he can leave them some organic surprises.
