LETTERS Concealed carry In response to the letter by J. Soraya (5/23), and numerous other letters regarding concealed carry in Missouri, I'd like to offer my perspective. Currently, Missouri is one of only six states that constitutionally guarantees every criminal in the state that their next victim will be unarmed. Currently, law enforcement personnel have neither the resources nor the obligation to protect me and my family. Despite my training as an National Rifle Association-certified firearms instructor, and my experience in the Navy, the Missouri Department of Corrections and private security, I am not legally entitled to carry a concealed firearm to protect myself and my family from the hundreds of criminals I have personally arrested, supervised and transported, and who may remember me and/or bear a grudge. Despite my thousands of hours of training and experience, my clean criminal record, and my lifetime of good citizenship, I cannot be trusted to use the knowledge, skills, and good judgment I have developed for the safety and benefit of my family and my community. Sure, that makes sense. Rex Green |
