For self-defense

What a remarkable coincidence that Lewis Diuguid's thoughtful column opposing concealed carry (Opinion) should appear in the same edition with the report of a fatal carjacking attempt (Metropolitan, 3/29).

Yes, Mr. Diuguid, thank goodness Kansas City prevents its law-abiding residents from going around armed with a concealed firearm¹. Otherwise, this incident might have ended with a senseless act of violent self-defense.

Thank goodness Gov. Holden has promised to veto any concealed-carry bill, should one happen to slip past Democrats in the General Assembly, as it would gravely endanger our protected, professional, predator class.

Honest, law-abiding citizens cannot be trusted with the means to defend themselves.

And thank you, Mr. Diuguid, along with the other Star editors and writers² and every other tireless champion of the virtuous notion that criminals in Missouri should never have to face an armed victim.

Mr. Dycus' comment:  "I know letters-to-the-editor are often edited for length, while striving to "preserve content or meaning," but am unfamiliar with the practice of embellishing submissions. Surely, this is done to fill up space, while preserving the meaning, as well."
