Concealed guns

Letter writer Laura Herdman (4/15) claims that a concealed-carry law would increase handgun accessibility to children, increase gun availability during marital disputes and increase the danger to the police during traffic stops. These situations would not be affected by concealed-carry.

The officer who does not assume that every person may be armed is at best lackadaisical in his duties. The writer assumes that when a concealed-carry law is passed that thousands of people will rush out to the gun shop and purchase handgun after handgun. Again, this is faulty thinking. The majority of people who would apply for permits already own handguns.

Herdman also states, "Citizens already have the right to have displayed guns in their vehicles and homes." This right does nothing for those same citizens having to defend themselves while not at home or in their vehicles.

The NRA cares about the quality of life and of your right and means to defend that life. The only effect it has on the sale of guns is directly linked to the support and defense of the right to possess and possibly use arms in defense of life and property.
