Western Missouri Shooter’s Alliance honors The late President Ronald Reagan When
former President Ronald Reagan died, the Western Missouri Shooter’s
Alliance (WMSA) wanted to do something in his honor.
The WMSA believed President Reagan was a supporter of the Bill of
Rights, and understood the importance of the Second Amendment, the concept
of self defense and the principle of liberty. As
former President Reagan was afflicted by Alzheimer’s Disease in his
later years, as is Charlton Heston, the former President of the NRA the
WMSA decided that an appropriate way to honor the former President would
be a donation to an Alzheimer’s Unit. The WMSA wanted to choose a very
deserving facility. The Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg was selected
as a board member had visited the facility previously and praised it
highly for it’s cleanliness, exceptionally caring staff, and the honor
and dignity that was shown to it’s residents in every way, from the
beautiful décor, to the staff’s attitude.
It was also felt that there could be no more deserving recipients
than the Veterans of the Armed Services. On Thursday the 5th of August the donation was made in front of the Freedom Board. Shown is WMSA Board member Sheila Stokes-Begley (on left) presenting the check to Shelly Bath (on right) who is the Activities Director for the Alzheimer’s Unit. Shelly said the money would be used toward special activities for the Residents of the Alzheimer’s Unit, things they especially enjoy. The donation was arranged by Vonda Addleman, who is in charge of Volunteer Services. .
The
WMSA said that they wished they could have made a larger donation, but as
this is an election year, it was not possible at this time. They will be
donating $5,000 to candidates, both Republican and Democratic that best
exemplify the principles of former President Reagan. The WMSA is a is a not-for-profit corporation created to inform concerned Missouri citizens about legislation that affects their rights and is dedicated to the restoration of the inalienable right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. For more information on the WMSA and a membership form to join go to www.wmsa.net. (For a membership form, click here.) The Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg is one of 7 facilities in the state of Missouri. There are also facilities in Cameron, Cape Girardeau, Mexico, Mt. Vernon, St. James and St. Louis. The facility in Warrensburg is a 200 bed facility. There are currently 182 residents, of which 50 are residents of the Alzheimer’s Unit. The oldest Veteran in residence is in his 90s and is a Veteran of WWII. The facility has been open since 2000. There are many volunteers that help out at the Veteran’s home, they are from near by Whiteman AFB, members of the community and the Elks which come once a month to serve ice cream.
