Report from the "veto rally" |
To: "MOCCW E-Mail List (E-mail)" <moccw@yahoogroups.com> From: "Michael Gordinier" <gordinier@olin.wustl.edu> Date: Thu, 3 Jul 2003 16:09:01 Subject: [moccw] Holden's Visit To St. Louis - Veto HB349 Just got back from the Governor's "veto rally" in St. Louis. He had about 50 of his supporters there + about 40 cops for his protection (imagine the irony of the Governor saying that "guns aren't helpful for defense" while being surrounded by an armed goon squad!). The Gateway Civil Liberties Alliance had time to muster about 15 protestors. No other gun rights organization representatives were present. [Ed. Com'on Mike, it's an eight hour round trip from Kansas City. Thanks for being there and posting this report!] We had signs, chanted a lot, booed and hissed during his speech, etc. The cops wouldn't let us in the park pavilion with the Holden supporters - why? we didn't have an invitation! But the cops let us get within about 50 feet of the pavilion, just close enough to see and hear .... and boo. We got a great deal of media coverage - 3 TV stations in St. Louis (Ch. 2, 4 and 5) , the St. Louis Post Dispatch, a few community papers and about 3 radio stations (KMOX included). I tell you, the lies that were spewed out by Holden and his evil minions (professional local "victims", law enforcement, St. Louis Mayor Slay and County Prosecutor McCulloch) were amazing! When McCulloch walked past me, I reminded him of his statement the "open carry is legal in Missouri ... so concealed carry is not needed". He said his still believes this. I shouted to him "if I were carrying now, what do you think the Gov's goon squad would do to me?" He laughed the laugh of a tyrant. We got in Bob's supporters faces (in a very polite way, of course) by making them walk past us to exit the park. In addition, we all chanted "One Term Bob" to the Governor as he boarded his armored van about 20 feet from our protest point. He waived at us ... what a moron! |
