Concealed carry

The Star's editors never cease to amaze me. Just when I think they can't go over the deep end further, they call supporters of concealed carry in Missouri "gunslingers" (5/30 editorial).

Missouri, one of the six states that does not allow "concealed carry," has just lost out on another attempt to reduce crime against people and property. The facts are there for all to see.

Let's see if we can keep it simple for the folks who are worried. Bad guys -- robbers, drug dealers, killers for hire -- do not obey the laws. That is axiomatic.

Good guys -- ex-cops, ex-GIs, good citizens all -- do obey the laws. They know how to control their privileges, and more important, their emotions. Should we not enlist their help against the bad guys (see previous paragraph)? It has worked everywhere it has been tried. This cannot be disproved, as much as people would like to try.

Here is hoping saner and more calm minds prevail in the halls of legislature. Your safety and mine could, and probably will, depend upon it.
