| Remembering Those Who Have and Are Serving in Uniform |
| November 10, 2005 |
| Ever since the first shots in America's journey for freedom and
liberty were fired on the bridges of Lexington and Concord, our military
has stood in the gap, not only in the defense of our freedom, but the
freedom of friends and allies around the world. From Bunker Hill and Lookout Mountain, to Pork Chop Hill, from the Sands of Iwo Jima to the jungles of the Ia Trang Valley to Hill 881, from the deserts of Iraq to the mountains of Afganistan, our men and women in uniform have answered the call to fight, and far too often, paid that last full measure of devotion, in order that we as a nation may continue to be that "shining city on a hill" for freeom loving people everywhere. It is fitting as we celebrate Veteran's Day 2005, that we take this opportunity to realize exactly what our veterans have purchased for us as a nation with their service and sacrifice. We have a free electoral system in our country because our veterans have guaranteed this process for us. You get to vote for the issues and representatives of your choice because our veterans have secured this right. I can be your representative because our veterans have paid the price to ensure we can speak with a free and uncensored voice. We can get in our cars, drive anywhere in the country without worrying about presenting governmental travel permits at armed check points because a veteran was willing to serve. We can do this because so many veteran's paid the price in their blood for these priviledges we far to often take for granted. Now again we will be celebrating a Veteran's Day while our men and women in uniform are fighting and dying on far distance shores in a battle for our survival and to give strangers in a strange land an opportunity to enjoy the freedom and liberty we so richly enjoy. Today, November 10, 2005 we send a very special, “Happy Birthday” to the United States Marine Corp on their 230th Birthday. "Sempre Fi", Marines and Thank You to all who have and are serving our great nation. May God bess America and grant wisdom and courage to the men and women in uniform fighting in her defense. “We fight not to enslave, but to set a country free, and to make room upon the earth for honest men to live.” - Thomas Paine |
