Vehicle Safe Storage

I drive my own vehicle (a Ford Ranger Pick up) to various job sites during the day.  Some of the job sites are gov't buildings and of course I can't carry when I'm at those locations.  I may be at a site for 30 minutes or for as long as 2 hours.  What are some suggestions for securely storing a hand gun in a vehicle?

Of course a logical place in a pick up truck is behind the seat since there is no trunk.  However I have to get out of the pick up to put the seat forward and then I'm exposed to public view when I put my hand gun there.   Many days I leave my hand gun safely stored at home and I would rather not do that.
Does any one have a suggestion(s) for an "in the vehicle" and out of sight holster?
My son has a Dodge Dakota with a locking console that I use when driving his truck.

Missouricarry.com has a vehicle safe that looks like it will slide under the seat.
My van has an under-seat storage unit that locks.  I don't know if one is available for the Ranger/Mazda truck or not

To safely store a handgun in my truck I bought a Lifejacket gun case from the gun shop. About 3 ft. of 1/4'' plastic coated cable and some crimp on connecters from the hardware store. I drilled two holes in one end of the Lifejacket so that I could loop the cable through and use a connecter to fasten it. I then made another loop on the other end of the cable. You have to strip the plastic on the ends to use these connecters but the plastic coating is a lot easier on your seat. I then looped the cable around the seat frame and used a good quality lock around the cable and through the loop to secure it. If you have a split seat the Lifejacket fits nicely between the seats and puts it out of sight. Make sure the cable length makes it easy for you to get the gun in and out but does not give a thief much to work with. This will not make it theft proof but it will slow them down enough that they may leave it alone.
I hope this helps

I saw that Gall's (www.galls.com) has a steel box for pistol storage intended to be mounted in a vehicle. The price is $86.99 plus shipping, and it had a good customer review. It is advertised as electrically operated, but the picture showed a key. It also had flanges with holes for bolting the box down.
As to locking your gun in a console/glove box, back in the late 70's I met some guys in school that worked valet parking for Plaza area restaurants. They regularly went through customers' glove boxes: They had the keys, of course, to park the cars. I heard them comment on how common it was to see guns and drugs in the glove box. Something to
think about if you go to an up-scale establishment with valet parking.
Some of the parking lots in down town KC require you to leave your keys, too.
