Bianchi #6 IWB clip holster Review by Derek Ward |
| I purchased a Bianchi #6 IWB clip holster
this weekend for about $21 with tax. I didn't expect English saddle quality from Bianchi but I did expect a decent, no-frills holster. The thin suede decreases waistband real estate consumption, and is an acceptable option when the body and belt provide retention by pushing against the gun. Suede is naturally slip resistant and helps keep the gun in position. One handed re-holstering is NOT to be expected with this design. The clip is very stiff in a good way. I used it for one day and was pleased. It is not the most comfortable when walking, but its not horrible and I would probably get used to it after time. A little weight loss would help too, I suspect. Its perfectly comfortable when sitting. I didn't care for the natural color of the suede. While it looks nice, it makes the gun stand out visually. After getting home from diner, I removed my cover garment and went into the back yard with our GSP dog. The next-door teen girl remarked, "Oh Derek, why are carrying that gun?". I simply answered that "I always carry a gun". I know this particular young lady has seen me on a number of occasions where, in my yard, I was open carrying a G27 in a Fobus rig. But apparently, she never noticed. It seems the black on tan really stood out (as you would expect) compared to the black on black. The natural and aesthetically pleasing tan had to go. Today I decided to dye the holster using some leather dye. I did a couple of test for colorfastness first. After convincing myself that it wouldn't bleed or rub off, I started to dye the holster. I noticed the stitching on two corners of the clip are coming loose or have stretched. They don't appear to have come free, but the corners aren't tight like the other two corners or any of the sides. There is only one row of stitching around the clip back. I'll have to use it a few more times to see if the stitching gets worse of if it has stabilized. Worst case, I am out $20. One last word, only after I opened the holster packaging at home, did I notice that Bianchi has an "as is"disclaimer. They say that the risk of all defects is on the buyer and that Bianchi makes no guarantees. Not a good policy and one that definitely will cause me to shy away from future Bianchi purchases, especially if this one fails after a few days of use. |
