Table of CCW in "Shall Issue" States |
|
There are three basic types of CCW. |
| This table represents details of the laws in each of the 31 "Shall Issue" states. Missouri is included only to indicate the details of what the law will be after Proposition B passes this Tuesday April 6. |
| Caution: These laws are a moving target. This is the most current and accurate information we could get our hands on, and many details have already been manually updated. If anyone has specific and current knowledge of any innaccuracy in this list, please email us at the address below. The table is a work in progress, involving ongoing research. It will continue to be updated as more information becomes available. |

| *There is a provision in Prop. B which would allow the Missouri Department of Public Safety to certify individual states for CCW permit reciprocity, if the DPS determines that state has background investigation and training requirements which are "substantially similar" to those within Prop. B. |
|
**Most states CCW laws lend themselves to easy categorization as either "Shall Issue" or "May Issue". Alabama is an exception. It is worded in such a manner that it could well be placed in either category. In practice, however, it tends to be a "Shall Issue" state, so that is how it is listed here. Other documentation may conflict, suggesting there are 30 "Shall Issue" and 13 "May Issue" states currently. We do not contradict them, but rather suggest the point is open to interpretation. |
| *** Vermont is unique in that every US citizen automatically has the right to carry concealed within Vermont's borders with no permit required. No permit, no training, no permission, no problem. Not coincidentally, among the 50 states VT has the lowest risk per capita that a citizen will be injured by a violent criminal. |
