Clay County to accept Conceal-Carry Weapons Applications in August

Note Regarding Platte at Bottom of News Release---SSB

Jun 03, 2004
Liberty, Missouri: Clay County Sheriff, Paul Vescovo, would like to announce that he is preparing to take applications for concealed carry in the very near future. Sheriff Vescovo has asked the Clay County Commission to approve the purchase of an electronic fingerprinting system that will allow fingerprints to be submitted electronically to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The system is manufactured by a company called Identix, and will allow the Sheriff’s Office to capture a fingerprint and then transmit that print through the AFIS system directly to the Highway Patrol and FBI. This method is essential in order for the Highway Patrol to receive and report the necessary information for applicant approval within the 45 day time limit set by the State.

Sheriff Vescovo has decided to move forward and accept applications following the failure of the legislature to correct the funding concerns, and the fact that the majority of the Sheriffs in Missouri are now processing CCW applications as required by State law. Sheriff Vescovo states, “I can not in good conscience continue to delay upholding a State law that has been ruled constitutional by the Missouri Supreme Court. It is my hope that the legislature in the future will address the funding concerns of this law.”

We hope that the equipment will be installed and operational by mid-August and we will start accepting applications as soon as it is operational. We will do everything we can to expedite the installation of the equipment to enable us to start the application process for those individuals seeking CCW permits.

NOTE-RE: PLATTE CO. FROM KJ: The Sheriff of Platte County will be issuing soon, but time is not specified.
